As usual, a trip around the garden always delivers surprises. This morning (from left to right): an old butler’s sink full of snails I was emptying to repot some seedlings; small green bugs on our New Zealand Cabbage Palm. At first I thought they were baby grasshoppers but a distinctive red stripe and the ability to fly (!) had me googling various insect identification sites. I’ve discovered they look an awful lot like Red Banded Leafhoppers (Graphocephala coccinea) – could that be right? And then the third photo? Well, Téa calls them ‘suckers’ because they suck on your skin ‘but not too hard‘! Anyone have any clues?
